Would normal bearing grease have lasted longer? rather than the white paste

More progress this afternoon.
Crankset and mechs serviced/cleaned/polished and refitted with new chain.

Which meant I could actually ride it for the first time! Albeit carefully ‘cos no brakes..
MKS pedals it came with are nice, just took the toe clips off and cleaned them.

Just need some canti’s on it now and I’m good to go until correct parts show up for sale. Can’t wait to ride it properly!
 
Great find. Coming along very nicely.

With wheel and headset bearings I tend to used marine grease. It costs a bit more, but doesn't require replacing as often - so less maintenance - and provides better resistance to water ingress - so, for example, you can be more liberal with the hose when cleaning or less anxious about barrelling through deep muddy puddles!

+1 on the Marine grease. Ditto the comments on a nice build, these alloy Kona's are easily overlooked.
I had a tub of eco/bio grease from Halfords, that set hard & was a proper pit-a$$ in the few places I used it. Binned the rest!
