Hi everybody. Have been lurking around here long enough. As I have obtained the majority of parts for this build right here, I thought I'd show you this.
This was built for my girlfriend. We went through countless RetroBike builds, looking for something she would like. As it turned out, she had a very clear idea of what she wanted and how she wanted the end result to look like. Main source of inspiration turned out to be stevetait's 1994 Zaskar. Thank you, Steve!
So this is what came out of our build. I'm very proud of this and the owner seems to be too. As you can see, it's 1x8. No front derailleur hassle! Slick tyres. Fast but comfy. Not exactly period correct, but that was not the goal. The spec list:
Frame: GT Zaskar LE 1994 18"
Fork: Amp Research F3XC
Headset: Diatech CB2
Stem: Titec Big Al, 60 mm
Handlebar: noname riser, 54 cm

Brakes: Shimano XT 739 (1997)
Brake Pads: KoolStop red
Brake Cables: Jagwire Ripcord
Brake Levers: Shimano XT 739 (1996)

Rear Derailleur: Shimano XT 739 (1997)
Derailleur Cables: Jagwire Ripcord

Chain: Shimano HG-91
Cranks: L&M, 175 mm
Chainring: Pace, 46T
Chainring bolts: Alloy
Bottom Bracket: Shimano BB-UN54, 73x118 mm
Pedals: Wellgo M111
Hub Skewers: ControlTech titanium
Rims: Mavic X517
Hubs: Shimano XT 739 (I think)
Nipples: DT brass
Spokes: DT Champion 1,8 mm
Tyres: Schwalbe City Jet
Tubes: Michelin C4, Continental MTB
Saddle: Selle Italia Flite Titanium (1991)
Seatpost: Kalloy UNO, 27.0, 300 mm
Seatpost Binder: noname alloy
And the pics. The bike:
I think XT 739's look very nice on this. Rims are grey anodized Mavic X517's.
I used lock-on grips because I got tired of forcing regular ones in. But I think they look ok enough.
The L&M cranks. Spider is a bit faded though. Any idea where to get a new one?
Just a few touches of colour.
The stem had to be short. It's modern, but I think it kind of goes well with the frame.
So that's it. Hope you like it.
