Hi all. I'm here to share the successful makeover of my vintage 1994 Gary Fisher Rangitoto. This cromoly bike has been through thick and thin with me on and off road for over 17 years. I has since retired it due to its poor condition, but couldn't bear to throw it away. Hence, this slow and budget restoration job to bring this hardy bike back to its former glory. Enjoy.
Steel frames might be heavy, but they're built to last. I've clocked thousands of kilometers and broke many components except for the frame.
Problem no. 1: This bike is designed for cantilevers only. I'll have to ditch the front derailleur to use V-brake in this case without resorting to messy cable ties.
Problem no. 2: Dents, scratches, rusts, stains and whatnot. The frame is a far cry from its original shine.
Problem no. 3: Heavy pitting caused by extensive rusting. Other teething problems: Faulty 21-speed brifters, derauillers and suspension fork.
