Yesterday morning, I picked up my first tandem!

1993 Yokota Silver Peak SN T92100017

Based on this catalog here, it appears to be all original besides the front tire.

These are designated Tange ShockBlades LT, possibly for "Long Travel", or "Lazy Tandem"šŸ˜‚. I've only ever seen an LT version on another Silver Peak tandem online. I'm looking for some replacement elastomers. Here's hoping suspensionforkparts.net can get me something suitable! Mountain Bike Action November 1992 had an article for the Shock Blades, that mentioned increasing the travel up to 2"! Does anyone have a scan of that issue?

I've already ordered a NOS replacement elastomer for this Girvin Flexstem Stoker.

The seatposts and bars are branded Dirt Research, which is the name Yokota switched to a few years later.

Here you can see the original rear tire, a Kona B:\ Drive, still in great condition! I have two A:\ Drive fronts from when I got my Humu, I think. It also was fitted with an SE Pedersen U Brake! This makes my first U Brake bike!

Here you can see a bolt hole for a bottom pulley, for a bottom pull derailleur. I've seen one other bike like this, practically completely original, and it had the same weird cable routing. I think that Yokota did this from the factory, and I aim to fix it. I tested a pulley from an Avid Rollamajig, and it fits perfectly. Anybody got a bottom pull M735 34.9 clamp size?

Huge 54T big ring! Tandem specific DX Cranks too!

The front BB is eccentric, which allows for chain tension between the captain and stoker cranks.

This, and the saddles, Onza bar ends, and Shimano parts' date codes all lead me to believe this was made in late 1992 for sale in 1993.

I'm fighting the urge to completely disassemble this bike for polishing and cleaning like I usually do, cause it needs so little! So far, here is the list of things I need to do:

Replace fork elastomers
Replace stoker stem elastomer
Glue front saddle cover back on
Replace front derailleur with bottom pull, and add a pulley
Replace rear brake cable
Replace and reuse current rear derailleur cable for front
New housing with metal stops all around
Swap tires for new Smoke/Dart blackwall
Clean, lube, and adjust everything

Here's only a few things that I want to do to this bike before I ride it:

Replace DX brifters with XT thumbies and SLR levers
Add an Avid Rollamajig to the rear derailleur
Swap in some of my favorite bar ends
Maybe swap in different saddles, possibly Brooks
