Re:

For those who hoped this thread had been safely tucked up in bed and forgotten I apologise...........
However today I was wandering along London Rd in Edinburgh and went into Eastside Bikes for a wee nose. They do up and sell second hand bikes mainly to students and had several in store including a GT Zaskar, but I never wanted a Zaskar despite their near legendary status on here so I passed that by. But they did have a mint original 21" Raleigh Activator 18 speed on sale inclusive of 3 month warranty.
Well for those that know me as a fan of blue collar bikes will know that it was inevitable that I'd buy it

Its a entirely dark green frame with a grey elastomer shock and silver grey forks. Even the tyres are original but will need replaced as a bit cracked. Decals are almost perfect. The shop reckoned it had been dry stored for 20 odd years.

It handles and rides really well as most Raleigh mtb's I've ever ridden do. Yes its heavy and the welds are blobby but Raleigh knew how to do good geometry in my opinion.

I like it but it does require a wee tweak or two because at 6'6" no bike fits perfect straight off the shelf for me. It will get a longer stem, wider bars, newer tyres and comfier saddle but I dont think it needs much else.

So here's to my future with the "Mountain Slug"

Pulled this out of a skip in 3 pieces a few months ago
