So I took the plunge and bought this...

Went and collected it from a top bloke.
The components are pretty sound, as is the bike in fairness, but the paint suggests its been stuck in some sort of industrial sized washing machine or one of those potato peeling machines it has so many chunks out of it that don't seem to fit with wear to the parts.
I've given it a quick once over, replaced the weird adjustable stem (free to anybody who wants it) with an equally battered Syncros one and Hot Rods and matched them up with a USE and Flite oh and removed the (pretty nice) XC Comp pedals for some SPDs. Just enough to be able to take it for a first spin tomorrow while "working from home".
Think I'll just ride it while I faff around doing not much of anything with the bikes I say I'm building. Eventually I think it will get a proper clean and lacquer to protect the war wounds and some new decals and then that'll be that. On that basis it could become a very short project.
