For Sale 1993 GT RTS-2 in St.Helens, Merseyside, NW England - £150

Antwack

Senior Retro Guru
I bought this lovely bike a couple of weeks ago off this very forum so you will have seen the SOLD thread in the For Sale section.

It went straight from my car and into the shed. However, last week I bought an LTS too and due to space restraints some bikes have to go although the LTS won't be one of them. *I've also had 'that look' off the Mrs

I'm happy to meet a prospective buyer within a reasonable distance, just ask!

16” Frame (centre of BB to centre of top tube).
Quadra 10 forks with purple Rockshox elastomers in great condition.
Noleen shock works well.
Mavic 231 wheelset on Deore LX hubs.
NOS wildgripper on the front wheel and a NOS Maxxis Helter on rear wheel.
Full Deore LX groupset.
Vetta saddle.
GT seatpost.
Zoom 150 bars.

I think this is such a bargain, looks in great condition and only a few changes from the original spec.

Mine cost me a staggering £1,350 back in 1992.

Still tempted, I almost bought an RTS before deciding on a 1993 Zaskar frame plus custom build BITD...
I do like the looks and it is a good price, talk me out of it...
What is it like to ride?
Will it need any money spending on it?
Can I justify having another GT, one for every day of the week?
@Antwack, if you're passing through Sheffield, I might have it of you.

Not my bike to convince you, but anyway, here I go...

I had this bike (well not this bike, but the same) from new in 92. Loved it. Did silly things to it like polish the cranks so they looked like m900 xtr, same treatment for the stem (silly as it was steel, but hey) and odt to tie it all in. Rode it on dirt a few times too, but not as often as it should have been. Took it to uni, got hit by a car, replaced the forks and wheels as a result with upgrades (hope ti hub on 217) and a minor upgrade from the quadra fork to the yellow version (pretty sure it was just the colour that was different, and maybe adjusters) and a flite saddle.

After that it was mothballed, found a crack in the weld at the BB, probably from the car incident as the lbs that did the repair evaluation said the rear end was slightly off, but couldn't include this in the insurance claim as no proof it was caused by the car incident, strange).

I still loved the bike and through trying to get it repaired, found retrobike. I then found a nos team frame, xtr, spins and other exotic, wallet hurting parts and built it up. It's my keeper and will not sell it.

Why? Well aside from nostalgia, I like that for a full suspension bike, it still looks like a nice bike. It was a great bike bitd, won things at school and DH before bikes became discipline specific.

I've had what must be around 10 others over time, still have another that I've had the rear end properly converted to disc that I must build up one day.

I'd be happy just owning an RTS.

If it wasn't such a waste, I'd buy this and hang it on the wall of my shed, returning the non stock parts to catalogue and a reminder of my first proper mountain bike that turned heads and for me at the time, a council estate kid, should have been way out of my league (thank you new for old insurance policy of my parents when I had 2 old bikes I'd wheeled and dealed to own were stolen, must have cost me a few hundred quid in paper round and Saturday job money and insurers paid out new money which covered the bike).

But it would be a waste and someone should own and ride it and appreciate it for what it is and was.

Well.... it is a lot of classic GT for the money.
You could spend money on it, but don't have to, immediately. It looks to be in super condition! Plus I don't believe you have a full sus GT in your collection...yet...?

There's a few of these that pop up for sale, but this one is one of the nicer ones I've seen for a while...

Oh hang on! sorry, I just realised I was supposed to be talking you out of it... 😁

Thanks @ishaw
I'd be happy owning an RTS if I can convince myself I need another GT, haha.
How does it compare to an LTS?

I won't have to ask about the i-Drive as I owned an iDrive 4 and rode it until it developed a crack at a weld on top the i-Drive shell (odd place, I was more concerned about the seatpost joint than the BB area as that seemed over engineered). However, I did enjoy the i-Drive 4.0, it was a very nice ride and seemed to do what it was designed to do.
Thinking of selling my 2011 GT Zaskar Sport as it isn't a true retro, it's 14 years old but despite carrying the Zaskar name it's not the same as an early 90's Zaskar.
Though may consider splitting and selling as frame only as some of the parts are worthy of keeping for another build.
