Surprised you didn't go for graftons....
I have heard that John did produce clipless pedals but thought very few were made but gives me something to look into tonight :D Thanks

Re:

Well you learn something new everyday, I never realised Speedtraps were clipless too  I never really looked at the pics close enough, always assumed they were flats  I was thinking of the cast alloy pedals I have seen of his.

to be honest that would be the cooler of the two options - and I have a lot of Onza's as I love em but your build is TOOOOOO exotic for run of the mill Onza's even with Ti spinals

Graftons would be way better - John Grafton can be contacted directly I believe on Farsebook (I'm not a face booker so don't know for sure) or via The Caretaker Guy on Instagram.... summat like that but I'm you know that anyway

I've got both the XC and CX versions (scroll further down the link below for the CX version) which as smaller and looker better if I'm honest

Also have the cleats and fitting instructions from 1992 ish - Cleats are massive monstrosities and stayed firmly in the box

Silver ones are "Mountain" the purple (smaller ones) ones CX

Re:

I agree they would be way cooler. I am in contact with John on Facebook and he seems a helpful chap. It's strange, that I never realised they were clipless as well as most of the pics I see are of the bare cages...god that's another thing to search for  Oh well the fun of the chase and all that. I'll keep restoring the Onza's though as I just want to see them shiny again.
Thanks for the offer of parts MTS, I got a big bag if cleats and elastomers (some new) so should be able to cobble a good pair together. I was a shimano guy BITD so interested to ride the Onza's (although have heard very mixed reports)

Tried SPD's backin the 90's and they made my knees ache like hell and have only ever used Onza's since due to their built in extra float

Don't know what MTS thinks but forget the Clear and Grey elastomers you can pull your foot out of them - Blue is Ideal and Black must be for anyone who doesn't want to put their foot down as once your in thats it

*edit for poor spelling and crap grammar

Re:

Cheers Spud, there are plenty of blues in the bag. I ride Crank Brothers on my modern bikes as I like a bit of float but I use there 0 degree cleats as still like to get out quickly

Re:

honestly throw the clear things away they're like trainer cleats for kids

on another note since your building an American Icon - if your going down the route of a Ringle post be sure to put the darn thing in the right way round with the Height lines / scale to the front not the back like everyone assumes and the clevis pin in as per the picture ..... otherwise our friends across the pond will flame yah

its all about #4

Re:

Cheers, it's already got a seat post which I think is a control tech...I think the bike will be a Ringlé free zone
