1992 San Andreas Mountain Cycle

Re:

Quick mock up of the Crankset. The Spider will be taking a trip to Acorn but nothing else as want to keep the rawness, in keeping with the frame.

Is this a better way of stripping anodising than using drain cleaner? I've had mixed results with Mr Muscle gloop.
Much better way in my opinion but you have to be careful, gloves, eye protection , and a mask is a good idea. I make up a strong solution and have a bowl of water next to it to neutralise . I only dip for a few seconds then neutralise, wipe down and repeat as you don't want to be leaving alloy in there too long

Nice thanks, I shall try it when I strip my red parts and get them properly anodised again. I would be the sort to wander off leaving parts dipped.
Reminds of being just a young lad with my first proper cycle clothing including some crochet backed mitts. They got so filthy yet washing them didn't remove the black stains from the soft grey/blue leather palms. I asked my mum and she said "try some bleach" so I got an old ice-cream tub, emptied a bottle of toilet bleach in it and left the gloves overnight.

In the morning, the only recognisable thing in the sludge was the yellow foam inserts. My mum was not impressed. Apparently, that was not what she meant.

The Italian postal service is back up and running so this arrived this morning

So another piece of the puzzle in place, just a USA 1 1/4" quill stem in cro-mo bare (I want to not use Syncros, ATAC or Control Tech if I can help it), and then there's the Pauls Front Mech (which I think will take some time to find the right one) and still working on the Freewheel (the one's I bought may not cut the mustard but are certainly interesting)

in the words of Hannibal Hayes (not Lecter) ... I love it when a plan comes together

really starting to make in roads now, one piece at a time

btw apart from the Eklind Imperial Multi tool nothing in those trays has moved - check out your pic's from the top of the page, you must have a large well ordered workshop free from Kids

The girls love coming into my Man Cave but are very respectful.

The trays are old alloy dental trays and ideal for organising projects.

As you can see nothing much has happened with the Prostops, waiting for companies to reopen as I need a trip out for face to face to match hydraulic seals.

Re:

So another problem that cropped up..the bullseye flip flop hub is a Tandem one and the flange spacing is 80mm and the one sided rear bullseye hub is 68mm and the extra 12mm meant that there was not enough room to fit a freewheel, but the flanges are pressed into the shells of Bullseye hubs and on Retrobike we have a man who can...So who you gonna' call...….Dan Chambers! (I hope you had the Ghostbusters theme in your head then).

Anyway, a quick PM, a lightning fast turnaround and also a custom spacer made so the Prostops are perfectly aligned and the results are below (The Bullseye decal has just been laid on as we had to sacrifice it to cut the shell but we also have another man who can on here so I'm sure Gil can weave some magic)

Thanks Dan, we are lucky to have some talented people on this site.

So next problem to solve is Freewheel...a USA one is going to be impossible because as far as I know the only USA made freewheels were or are BMX single sprockets but Regina of Italy did make the "Extra America 1992" 7 speed freewheel which seems sort of appropriate in date and name. And still looking for idea's on a non Syncros, Ringle, ATAC, Control Tech 1 1/4" Quill stem

Great work as usual from Dan the man....

BTW. I recently put a Regina America on Our Jimmy’s Concorde Astore.... thing of beauty....

(Watch out for Italian threads though)
