Would have thought the extra pull of a V brake lever would have been better - is that not so ?

I guess that when ProStops came out they we’re designed to work with a regular lever that back in the day would only have been for cantilever brakes
 
My attempts and talking to paul smith confirmed they are fussy - even when bled properly. I will say that SS7s are awful.

Idle question - did you secure a new 1 1/4 steerer ?
and if so do you still have the old I nch threaded one ...... if so would you sell it ?
I have an old pair of Marzocchi forks that have been serviced and the inch steerer is lust a bit tooo darn short and being a bit of a cheapskate I didn’t want nor need a new 180mm + steerer

Also stripping the Suspender's (sound's a bit pervy :shock: ) They are 1 1/4" shimmed to a 1" threaded steerer. The headset in the San An is 1 1/8" so was going to have to get a shim and 1 1/8" steerer but when taking out the headset that too has a shim and the San An is a 1 1/4" (still following this), so have to decide whether to go 1 1/4" or 1 1/8" with steerer, headset and stem (obviously 1 1/4" would be more difficult and more expensive)

Think i would run the bike au naturel, all 1-1/4"

Just looking at the Tech-Lite's tonight..they have 3 positions for the pivot points so hopeful that one of them will suit the Prostops :shock:

Just read back and realised that MTS had already told me this 2 posts earlier :facepalm: , I must learn not to skim read :roll:

Right continuing on the road less travelled theme, looking at cranksets..I want to go for hollow cro-mo, so top of the American list was Bullseye's but they command eye watering prices and unless you go for a later external euro BB and shim you have to contend with the pitiful bearing which would disintegrate with the first hint of Yorkshire mud. And frankly the chances of getting a pair under 180mm without remorgaging my house are slim, then I still have to contend with chainrings. So McMahon Steely Danz were on the list but they are a bit chunky at the BB end for my liking..then reading through a 1994 copy of Mountain Biking( which I had lost but found when having a tidy up of the cubby hole)..I found this advert

So with interest peaked I looked them up on the net and they still make cranks, still have old design's in stock and have some NOS chainrings and spiders left that are being sold off. So e-mailed them and we will see what happens (fingers crossed)

Wow, things have moved fast. I did take account of the time difference when I mailed, but got a response within 20 minutes. The sales guy consulted the MTB guy and all the components I needed would work together bar the blue alloy coloured crank bolts everything was in stock. So, Cranks, Spider, Chainrings, BB, Axle ordered and on their way, upgraded to Ti axle, spider bolt and crank bolts ( which I can get coloured later). Not thinking about the customs duty but will still work out way cheaper than the Bullseye option and still age and more importantly USA appropriate. So all in all very happy :)

This is what passes as Friday night excitement when you get to my age. Taking a rare rear hub, disassembling it, and then dipping it in a hot Caustic Soda solution and hope it doesn't fall to bits :shock:

bloody hell - amazing results

bizarrely I to indulged in a hot Alkaline bath today - talk about Hubble bubble toil and trouble...... it erupted

cleared out the sinuses and a few brain cells - almost threw up with the stink
