I've owned this from new in 1992 - bought via Stif in Leeds. Originally supplied in the 'pink' colour, I had it resprayed metallic blue by API in around 1994, c/w Team Specialized decals which were sent to me from the US. Then kids came along in 1996 and it's been mainly hung up in the garage, getting used only on the occasional CenterParcs holiday!
But having recently got back into cycling, I decided to rebuild it, inspired (it has to be said) by RB! Okay, I've gone way off track with the colour scheme - and taken liberties with the graphics - but I think it looks great.
Rides well, too. Most of the XT stuff dates to the 1990s as works superbly well. The Pace RC35 forks needed a complete rebuild - the elastomers were mush - but the forks works like new now. Picked up some BNOS Dia Compe 987s and rebooted it in Schwalbe Silento, using the original Mavic 231CD rims. Given the abuse this bike had back in the day, I'm amazed how well it's all come together. It shows that the 90s were a great era for high-quality bike-building!
I'll probably put in some wider bars as the Renthal sub-130 was cut down to just 515mm back in 1992... such was the fashion back then!
