Thank you for your kind comments ;)

For a low end bike, it seems to get some flattering comments  The blue is such a deep colour, fantastic, and hopefully complemented by shininess bolted onto it!

Mike

That's just it mate , it's always been a desirable classic mtb to begin with regardless of it's position in the range and your time and effort in restoring it back in to top condition is paying off 100% ..

Re:

I wish I knew which year it was made. Originally red, that's all I know. Looking through the archives, I think a '92 Comp seems most likely.
Forks have their first coat of lacquer on now, second is going on tomorrow, then I have to wait for the lower headset cup to turn up, from France

Hi retrofolk, ;)

Lovely evening here in the deep south  , well Worthing, West Sussex.

Got my forks finished earlier in the week, and this is the first time I've been home early enough to take a piccy in daylight

I'm really pleased with the finish, I lacquered them in my lorry, then had the heating on high, hoping to kind of bake it on  They are a bit darker where I painted, but I can live with that.
Also got home to find my new lower cup had arrived! Cool!

So, guess what I'll be doing this weekend, nice! It only has one DX logo on it, so which way round do I put it? At the front I guess?

Think I'll make some progress this weekend
I'll re-title the thread now , as I think it's a '92

Re: 1992 Rockhopper Comp , updated 6th March

Good work Mike those forks are looking real sweet mate and that bottom crown race cup will compliment the front end very nicely  and i can't wait to see the next update pic as this is turning out real sweet ! ;) ..

Re:

Hi folks,

Managed to get some progress done at last  after Mrs Muz decided we needed to sort out the loft
After a lot of hiding stuff in there, I made a start on the 'hopper.
Firstly, after gathering specialist tools for the job,

File, hammer, shrink wrap tube, I got the headset race on. It had taken a lot of filing, so the framebuilder I took the forks to, must have given the original race a pretty good whack to break it  Lesson learnt.
Then it was out with the allen keys, cable cutters, grease and oil, to get the bike together.
Here's how it's looking right now.

The seat clamp is looking a lot smarter than previously

I do like the look of the stems that have the cable going through it, tidier than a seperate hanger. Is that lower cup straight?

Next job will be to true the wheels up, as well as fine tuning the brake pads. Which is what I'm off to do now,

Hope you like it so far ;) I do

Mike

Re:

Hello again

Quick end of day report.

Trued wheels up today, along with fettling the brakes so they work nicely, and fitted tyres. 2.1 Panaracer Fire XC Pro's. Wire bead version, and a bugger to get on, I was getting >
Anyhow, here's how it stands now.

So, just the gear cables to fit, along with a chain and pedals. Bar end plugs now in too

Looking forward to trying it out

Hope you like ;)

Re: 1992 Rockhopper Comp , updated 8th March

Now that's looking amazingly perfected so far mike and i'm really impressed with how it's turned out to say the least but what i am curious to know is what did you use to true the wheels with ie ; did you put the wheels on a stand while truing them up or leave them on your bike lol ? ..
