Why is there a nut behind the booster, it should be a spacer?

Thank you! The instructions are really clear. Does anyone use that shimano tool??? It’s pretty clear that with a ring spanner it would be loads easier- thanks for taking the time to explain.

I had two narrow spacers but the booster was blocking the movement of the brake, couldn’t find an additional spacer, so whacked a nut in… must put that right…

These are the pad setups I use, they are also longer like the original xtr blocks.

Once setup, you just use the barrel to take out the slack, then wind it back in, switch pads.
You can get chunkier pads that work really well too.


Looking at your pictures, assuming the same setup.
The rear will need the later m900-c instructions as it has the fixed length tube thingy.
The front is on a rocker, so another level of fun.

I’ve really been enjoying using the Elite a lot recently, and it’ll jump speed bumps and fly around SE London very happily… until today when I found my braking was a bit squirmy- that’ll be because the steerer and the fork are no longer connected! The fork has broken through metal fatigue and that hasn’t been helped by all my hammering around on it. Anyway, very keen to find an original Elite fork, have sorted some Pace RC35s to keep it on the road but not sure I’ll like the weight or squish. One thing is for sure, I’ll never be without this bike.

Well that was interesting. Does anyone know of somewhere that can aluminium weld a steerer tube on? I’d hate to lose the original fork. Around the back, there were 9mm of metal still holding it together.

Pace RC35s on for now, the mk1 version, and new tyres- moderns but fat and I use it regularly anyway. Still love this bike so much.

@danson67 should be able to help you. If anyone can, Dan can, he's performed many an amazing repair for folk on here. To me that looks rescuable with a custom machined steerer section...
