1992 Marin Pailsades Trail rebuild

Re:

Ah, that's excellent, many thanks!
My heart goes for the retro-ness of the Exage and Biopace rings but they are somewhat, err, weighty to say the least but hey, that's not the be all and end all. I guess if I went down the compact route, I'd need a significantly shorter axle, something like 113 or 107.

possibly - im not sure on what bb length a sugino compact would need

You arent going to save a huge amount of weight in the grand scheme of things though

Re:

Ta, I think I'm leaning towards the Exage chainset, certainly more original for the frame than the Sugino's.

Re:

2nded for Exage.

My other palisades came with 500lx and deore lx. I know there were some random upgrades at the time.

Re:

Super, great looking bikes there, thanks! I'm definitely going down the Exage/Biopace route for the chainset, managed to pick up an Exage 500 front mech and a 200GS rear mech which is a bit mix and match but the 1st MTB I ever had had 200GS so for me it's a nice nod back to the past :)

Re:

Ok, sounds like the build is going the right direction.

200gs (front) will move your chain around but, less pleasant to the eye.

A 3/4 /500LX upgrade is wise. As for the rear though, 200gs is only truly bettered by the time you get to say, DX for elegance, weight saving etc...

It'll do the job just fine.
