Hi all,

I've got a Eldridge Grade from 92 ad I'm thinking I might upgrade the gears slightly. At the moment this is 21spd but I wasn't sure on the ease of upgrading to 24spd. Also thinking about popping some suspension up front, just wondered if anyone had any ideas on what ones would suit it best

Thanks

Changing to 24 speed is a new chain, new hub (or wheel) new cassette and new rear shifter (and cables). Probably only worth it if your old stuff is crap or worn out.

Suspension if you want to keep the bike looking normal right then an early 90's pair of forks would be best.. Look in the archive for the 1994 review of some suspension fork. Rockshox MAG/Quadra or Answer Manitou would have been typical on Marin'. But each to their own on what they like.

You could move to the 1995 to late 90's era forks as well with a few adjustments.

I don't really understand what you mean by "upgrade" - if you want wider gears: buy the SRAM 12-32 7 speed cassette.
If you want simply lower - buy smaller chainrings.

I still run mainly 7 speed - the wheels have less dish and should therefore be stronger, the chains (7 or  last well, and the whole lot is less finicky with mud and muck in the cables than 9 speed.
