Just thought I’d share this bike I’ve knocked up for myself. This was the Cannondale frame that was at auction in Tring with some nice bits on that went for £25. I watched it live and didn’t bid because it was a 260 mile round trip for frame that might be toast. A member bought it and took the bits he wanted and moved the frame on with the headset in a cycle jumble sale, which another member saw and thought nice headset, I’ll have that and flip the frame. Frame comes up for sale and we strike a deal and he’s kind enough to post it to me because it’s even further away now. Not only that he chucked the headset in for peanuts which I must say is great condition. Finding a headset was going to be a headache, well not a headache. Just expensive.. I’d planned on stripping the paint and having it powder coated with new decals to tune of about another £150 but I had the idea that I might just be able to polish this turd. That’s what I did, I touched it up, gave it a good t-cut, polished it some more and built with parts I had and a donor Cannondale I got for £23. (Which had an XT 1 ¼ threaded headset chucked in a bag with it that I didn’t know was included) Headset wouldn’t have been that expensive after all. But hey, it’ll be useful to somebody no doubt. It’s a great bike, lots of fun. I was cruising down a gravel track on it the other day without a care in the world for the noise of the stones hitting the underside of the downtube. Music to my ears actually, I’d not be down there with fresh paint. I’ve nicknamed it ‘The Chippendale’. It’s chipped to f*ck but I don’t care. It looks good from a distance and it’ll get used properly
So yeah you can polish a turd a bit..
