1992 kona hahanna

Am looking for some advice and wondered if anyone can help with a 1992 Kona Hananna that I am struggling with.

could anyone tell me the bottom bracket dimensions for this model?

ive never rebuilt a bike before - the old 200gs cranks were u/s and so am replacing the cranks and the BB whilst Im at it with some better specced stuff

use a 68mm shell, but the axle length will depend largely on what cranks you choose. Think there's a axle/crank compatibility chart on sheldonbrown.com

thats really helpful - its made me realise how little I know. have had a look around at the site and as I have a FC-M440 crank. From what i can see a BB-UN26 BB looks to do the job. ill try that unless anyone can see that I am about to make a (nother) mistake....

It could be the right BB, but it needs to be the correct length for the cranks you have now. Have you taken the one you have out of the frame yet? Remember, on the side with the chainrings, turn it clockwise to remove it.

Ive taken the cranks off and removed the old BB - Do I need to measure the BB length? apologies for sounding like an idiot! - there is no length marked on the axle.

the shell is 68mm

the axle length depends on the crank. a quick google shows that for FC m440 a 110-113mm spindle is correct

The spindle length you need depends on the new crank, so the length of the old spindle isn't relevant.

FC-M440 came in both square taper and Octalink, so I'm assuming you have the square taper type and in that case a 68-110 square taper bb will suit. The FC-M440 is at Deore/STX-RC level. A UN54 bb (LX) is better than a LP26 (Alivio), but the LP26 will work fine.

I'm in Hove, so happy to visit and take a look if need be, but sounds like you're doing fine.

To be far I was asking for it with the new stuff on the old Kona - so fair point - but as its the first attempt I thought I'd try and minimise the damage (cost).
thanks for the additional advice - i'll try the BB - and mail my neighbour if I get stuck (thanks for offer).
Ill post some photos If I ever finish this job and make it to the Southdowns. In reality I suspect I will have many more daft questions before then. ta
