1992 GT Team Avalanche

I was very excited when I came across this bike, when I contacted the owner and worked out a price I drove my 1970 Chevy Impala the 4 hour drive to pick it up! The guy I got it from bought it new in the box when he worked at Riteway Products (a big GT distributor on the west coast) in 1991. He didn't put many miles on it, it mostly hung from the ceiling of his apartment for the next several years. After that it went to his brother who had it tuned up at some point, the grips were replaced due to the originals becoming sticky, for some reason the rear brake pads were changed too, other than that the bike is completely original down to it's Ritchey tires. The Midnight Aurora paint is in fantastic condition, this color is hard to take pictures of, it is amazing in person! It rides like a dream, and fits like a glove. I feel very fortunate to find one of my grail bikes so early in collecting vintage mountain bikes.

That looks stunning, clean and beautiful! It makes me appreciate this year for GT bikes all the more!

Despite an XT group and Tange Concept tubing it was certainly no lightweight!!

Stunning paint for a mass produced machine.

Neither of the Team Avalanches were that lightweight.
My 90 is 12.88kg (28.3lb)
My 91 (like this one) is 13.22kg (29.1lb)

Still love them though!!

my '92 Bravado weighs about the same, not superlight but it feels good to ride. The weight isn't an issue to me as I am not a lightweight either!

Wow! My stock 16” 1991 GT Avalanche was 28lbs. Still 4lbs lighter than my 1989 MBK Ranger!!!

I certainly think it would be easier for me to lose a kilo than my bike

Yeah, I was surprised when I weighed them, they don't feel heavy to ride. (Plus mine are 18" frames)

I'm not a weight weeny, but just weigh mine out of interest really: Here are some other GT weights

GT's have never been known to be the lightest of bikes, but they feel lighter to ride than some other bikes I have owned.
All my GT hardtails have been 16" frames, my 2001 Gt iDrive bikes were medium frames and much heavier.

Yeah, as I say, I don't really care too much about the weight, I love riding all of them. I was more interested (in a nerdy way) in the differences in weight for different tubing types. For example the Ishiwata tubing on my Kuwahara is much lighter than the Ishiwata pipes on my Timberline... double butted versus quad butted..... I don't really know what I am trying to achieve to be honest.... but that doesn't normally matter either

I used to have a 2002 iDrive and it was a tank... great fun though... I ended up giving to my nephew.

I had my iDrive 6.0 for only a short while, it was the heaviest GT I owned and sold it.
I enjoyed riding my iDrive 4.0 as it was lighter and a better specced bike than the previous one.
