1992 GT Avalanche on FB Marketplace

Great find to get both! I have one of these in 18” flavour and it’s such a great steed in one of the most iconic GT paint schemes (in my slightly biased opinion 😜). They are getting rare too, I keep an eye out on eBay etc and seems to be only about 1 a year turn up. Good to have the original stem too, many seem to have lost them over the years.
Yes, it must have been a happy coincidence to find both at the same time, though @player pointed me to this 1991 model after I shared the 1992 Avalanche FB Marketplace ad on here. I felt like I won a lottery, I mean what are the odds of that ever happening again?
I have been in touch with the seller of the forks telling him I found the perfect recipient for them and I told him I would share some photos of the bike when I get them fitted, seems fair. right?

Overall, the bike is in very good condition for its age but I will make sure that everything works as it should. Looking forward to that process and I will be happy to share the progress on this great site.

Now that I have this lovely bike home, I got lucky finding some GT rigid 2x4 forks on eBay and hit the BIN button, just couldn't resist!
Talk about good timing and luck here.
The Rockshox are nice forks but I prefer the rigid forks, especially as they came off a 16" GT Avalanche, it would be funny if it was the same bike, it seems quite an coinkydink...
The forks arrived today! Can't wait to get them fitted....

Quick update: Forks have now been fitted and look great!
I'll try and get some photos of the bike in daylight next.
This is lovely. I pored over the 91 GT catalogue, far too much. This was the bike I wanted. I loved the paint scheme above all other bikes I'd seen, and there were many. Spending many a weekend schlepping around the bike shops in Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley. In the end my paperround money was spent on a, pink with white drizzle icing, Pacific Super XT. It was the same money - £599.99 - and Tange Prestige, but came with full XT instead. I loved it, but it never gave me the same tingle as the Avalanche. If ever there was a regret it was not buying one of these.

I did own the 1992 GT Timberline which also came in Daktari White, BITD, owning this 1991 GT Avalanche reminds me of that time.
