1992 Diamondback Sorrento

Hi everyone. I'm back on this forum after a long departure. I've just pulled this frameset out of the garage from where it's been sat for the last 10+ years. I figure it's time to do something with it

Heres the backstory of why i acquired it in the firstplace. One of the bikes I used to ride was a dark green with black splatter diamondback sorrento

In 2013 I had a cycling accident on the way to work, In which i lost the bike. This bike was originally an anniversary gift from my mum to my dad, so naturally i felt bad about it

So i scoured the Internet for about a week for a replacement when this frameset came up for sale. It wasn't quite the year or colour scheme to replace my dads but with green splatter sorrentos seemingly non existant, it had to do. It came by courier and I put it at the back of the shed while I search for parts, and due to certain changes in my life at that point, it hasn't moved since.

Also If anyone can help put a production Year to this bike that would be helpful. I'm currently assuming by the paint style and the graphics it's around 1994

After a little wipe down, it's really low rust which I'm surprised about. And I'm a big fan of the white effect on the paint, splatter is as 90s as a stone roses album cover

That's a 1992 model. Not a bad frame as far as entry level goes, but ultimately it's a mass produced Taiwanese frame incase you have ideas of it being desirable.
Well worth building into a dependable rider though. I had the Apex (92) in my teenage years.

There's plenty of life left in that frame and the paintwork is sweet.

Thanks, its older than I thought. I never expected to find gold dust here, but it's helpful to have an I'd, as the tt graphics are missing, and having a model year means I can source period correct parts

We can sometimes become fixated on the rarer more valuable bikes, and lose sight of the simple fun that comes from building up and riding an old bike for the hell of it.

Look forward to seeing this DB brought back to life.

Definitely a '92 judging from the decals. I have an Axis Pro from that year, nice bikes.

We can sometimes become fixated on the rarer more valuable bikes, and lose sight of the simple fun that comes from building up and riding an old bike for the hell of it.

Exactly, what i think I need is a do or bike. Parts are looking expensive. Gonna see what I can source on the cheap

If you're interested I have a 400 LX group you can have for the price of postage.
Includes...
Crankset (Black)
Front and rear Derailleurs
Brake levers and shifter pods
Cantilever brakes (Black)

It needs a clean up, shifters could do with a degrease and lubrication, but it's otherwise all good. A few steps up from 200 GS and should suit this frame well.

You'd just need to source wheels, cassette and cables.

That would be amazing mate. I don't know what seat tube size is, what's the chances the front mech will be the right size?
