took the 7800 daccordi out on a proper ride last weekend, and it was great.
i did try out some 25mm GP4000 tires, and although they rode really well, they were too tall, and rubbed the top of the front brake when standing out of the saddle.
the SLR saddle was also a bit to narrow and unergonomic for a 3 hour ride in an agressive aero position, so it was replaced by an ugly, but comfortable ism PN 3.0... :mrgreen:

i also tried out some dura ace c24 wheels, and they were a pretty good match, but usually hang out on the CAAD, and lack the bling of the hunts, so they were only there for a short trip.
the vittoria corsas are coming back though, as they dont rub, and both look and ride great.

Had a great 100km ride yesterday - everything was perfect except i slipped on some debris in a small roundabout and hit the asphalt!
RIP hunt rim (and my buttocks )


the rest of the bike did ok, looks like there was no damage to the frame, seat or handlebar - only some scratches on the pedals, hoods, rear QR, and the sturdy bar end plug saved the bar tape.

When I ever I do that I might have a broken leg but first thought is...the bike!

I did a triathlon at the weekend - all carbon bikes etc - except one very classic looking Daccordi!

Steel appears to have all but disappeared so great to keep it alive and kicking

yep, not many steel bikes out and about, but they do show up from time to time - mostly as inner city runabouts though

My avatar pic is from inside my garage and apart from my Look in the foreground steel is all you see, so in a Bono style "sorry about that" it's probably my fault as I've got them all.

And that is a particularly nice Daccordi by the way. Very bad luck on your unmounting, I hate roundabouts so can you sort the rear rim or is it a new set of rims?

yeah, it's easy to start hoarding when you see a great old bike for sale, needing just a little TLC to get back in shape, and going for next to nothing.
i've had to force myself to stop buying more, as i just dont have the space for any more bikes, and i dont want to become a reseller

the rear rim is completely shot, but Hunt has a crash replacement program, so a new rear wheel has been ordered at a discount.
if i had the skills myself, i could have just gotten a new rim and rebuilt it using the old hubs and spokes, but it cost less for a complete wheel then it would have cost to get a wheelbuilder to rebuild it, so a brand new wheel it is.

Once you think about it, it makes perfect sense, as the japanese love obsessing over small, obscure, long lived companies.

What makes Daccordi perfect for the most hardcore japanese italophile, is that it is not too big and well known like Colnago or bianchi (for plebs and filthy casuals), they are still handmade in italy by the Daccordi family, and they are really hard to get hold of new since they have very few dealers and very little online presence (though the last part has recently improved with a new english website) :mrgreen:

got hold of a complete dura ace 7410 groupset the other day in pretty good condition, so the 600 tricolor bike will be upgraded :mrgreen:



Though it has a few minor scratches on it here and there (probably mostly from storage), it looks like it hasn't covered a lot of miles, as the FD still has the 1mm mounting sticker on it, and the chainrings look pretty much unworn! :shock:


the levers are also surprisingly different from the 600 levers - i thought they were pretty much the same based on photos, but they really do feel completely different, and a lot better made.
the action is a lot more positive and stiff feeling too, with a nice and short lever-throw compared to the 600 levers.







can't wait to get it on the bike and take it out for a spin, as the long and imprecise lever-throw has always been my biggest issue with the 600 groupset- i just have to wait for the new 103mm italian threaded BB to arrive.
the 7410 BB that came with the group was regular thread, and the UN70 BB i currently have installed is 115mm, and too wide for the 7410 cranks.
