1992 Alpinestars Cro-Mega now SS

The cro-mega DX is a great looking bike, look forward to seeing it built up.
Cheers!

Original fork is now on the frame with the headset greased and tightened. Bearings looked ok but there was some visible wear on the races.. Will keep this headset on for now and get a replacement off ebay. Spring is approaching and I want to take this bike for a spin! Ordered some singlespeed bits as my dx-set will take a while to complete. Not very retro, but frame is still e-stay and chromoly :)

Still have to replace the square-taper BB with a new one. from the looks of it, the spindle-length has to be around 122 to stay clear from the estays. Could 118 work too perhaps?

Weird Bonus:
Found this could-be-donor-bike in the "graveyard-part" of the bike-room in my apartment building. It's been hangin a while. WTB note has been added to it :)

Finally did something to this (all work no play etc). Still not finished, some bits to sort out.

Not something for purists, this is meant to be fun, solid and cheap.
Retro stuff:
Frame (yay points there)
Fork
Kalloy Uno stem (well it's 1 1/4)
DX brakes
Chill Pills (form over function...)
Avenir clamp
Front wheel (Mavic rim DX hub)
Stock headset
Stock bottom bracket

Modern stuff:
Conti tyres
Rear wheel, Alexrims + unknown hub
Charge Seat
Brand X/Kalloy Seatpost
Brand X/Kalloy Riserbar, I'm tall and it suits me
BBB Lock-on grips
Shimano FC-M442 (104 bcd gives more chainring options)
Velosolo Chainring 36T (3/32)
Shimano DXR cog (14T/18T)
KMC/Onza SS-chain
Tensioner (not very pleased with it)

Have-to-do's:

Replace bottom bracket (need shorter)
Fit some nice brake levers
Fix issue below
Ride

Finally a question for Sinnett or someone with experience from e-stay SS: When I apply force (standing) chain skips at the chainring. You think this could be solved with a DH-type tensioner? Is the bottom bracket flexing?

Chainline is a bit f*ked due to the long bottom bracket, not very much room for me to fiddle with it.

Very nice, and very rare in red

Have you weighed it yet? Must be light? and are you running only one brake, permanently?

Would never think of buying a red car, but it's ok for bikes :)

Paint has some chips/rubbing here and there but not enough to make me wanna respray it. I really like the look of your fluoro paintjob/decals but this is staying red/black and maybe with a splash of gold ;)

I'm gonna have front and rear brakes, but I put it together to test the drivetrain. Need new levers as I only have shifters/brake-combo. Fitted a V-brake lever for some stopping power

Have not weighed it yet, feels nice and light though.

Doing what I can for the UK economy:

Cranks are ok. Square taper and cheap. OEM on some mid-range bikes.
Stronglight single chainring-bolts
