1991 Shogun resto project

Picked up this rather ratty but original Prairie Breaker from 1991 at the weekend.

...stripped away some of the tat and removed the worn out components seat post was free but quill stem fused to the steerer and bottom bracket beyond the pale...

.... lengthy battle with this BB and a ton of penetrating oil and managed to get some movement on one side - then this pulled out

The steerer was also a big challenge - that Tioga stem was certainly very strong and survived the ordeal, although the (Spinner cr-mo) fork steerer has heavily corroded threads so I sourced another very similar fork

interestingly these 2 forks are within 6 grams of each other in weight and nearly identical in other respects the original is marked Spinner TO and the substitute is Marin Rock Star - only the dropouts seem to differ.

so frame and forks prepared for next stage dipping, sandblasting and then powder coating

I am unsure on colour scheme but will choose something radically different to the rather drab original and will attempt to find some decals or get custom ones cut once the frame and forks are done - next update circa mid May

I had a trail breaker 2 from 1991, 19” which was comically large as my folks wouldn’t listen to my pleas for a 17” (thought I would out grow it)
Lovely frame which took years of abuse

Any chance of posting the frame number? I'd be interested to see which factory this came from.
2 number sequences on BB shell - M1KW22813 and LS224YZ . from that number I deduce it was made in 1991 ,however decals and colour scheme appear t be 1992 model - others may be more knowledgeable here !

I'm sure it's already crossed your mind, frame could have been built in 91 but not prepped for retail until 92?

Thanks for the number. I'll add to my list, something of an unusual one, I don't have anything else similar at the moment around the same timeframe. The Shogun Prairie Breaker number I have indicates it is a different manufacturer, although it is a year earlier (1990).

LS22 4YZ looks like a UK postcode.
yes although it doesn't correspond to the owners address currently - although the bike shop it was purchased from originally was in Wetherby so it may have been that of the bike shop that is no longer, as that postcode doesn't correspond to anything any more
