I have been a long time member, but not really a forum contributor. I bought and sold stuff (mostly buy). I owned a number of mountain bikes in the early 90s including a 1991 Rocky Mountain Nimbus which was destroyed by my friend, his garage, and a Thule roof rack
. Back in the day, it checked the box with the raw aluminum finish, radically sloping top tube, XT components, Ritchey Logic crank, Syncros kit, Gripshift and anodized Ritchey Vantage wheels.
When I saw a used 17” Nimbus frame for sale on Kijiji in 2014, it was a easy buy. It had no cracks, but had missing/faded decals, yellow with brown stains and was in need of a good clean and refinish. The goal was to build the bike to the catalog spec that for the longest time, was “the bike in the window” in 1991. Fast forward to 2022, here is the fully restored bike with mostly NOS parts.
Frame and Syncros fork was refinished by Chris Dekerf. Decals (down to the wheel decals) are a mix of Retrodecals, Velocal, OEM, EBay sellers, and a few Retrobike member’s reproduced decals. Enjoy the pictures.
