1991 Marin pine mountain frame numbers

Hi everyone, I have a 1991 pine mountain which I bought a few months ago with a project in mind but I think its probably going to be too much for me due to a move where I have little or no free space so I thought I would check the frame had it’s I’d numbers before selling it on, there were no sign of any numbers in the normal place running around the edge of the bottom bracket on the non drive side so I cleaned off the paint but there’s no sign of numbers or a bodge where someone has removed them so I removed the plastic cable guide and cleaned off the paint off and found some numbers running across the bottom bracket...these numbers read. M902020093. I was just wondering if any of you knowledgeable folk had encountered frame numbers running across the bottom bracket in this way as I have had a few bikes but never seen this....Thanks...Lewis...

It happens occasionally, typically with hand made or prototype frames. The number looks right for your bike. There is a big Marin Frame Numbers thread.

Thanks guys, I just had a good read of some of the Marin frame numbers posts but nothing much makes sense and I couldn’t find any examples of frame numbers running across the bottom bracket although I have found examples of frame numbers from Marin bikes of similar years that contain 10 characters....1 letter followed by 9 numbers. It’s probably clear that the M means the marvel factory and the first two numbers could be the year 90 although mine is the darker 91 zolatone but the rest is a mystery...Thanks very much for your time...Lewis...

Late 90 built for 91 sales (catalogue) year would make sense.
