So as I don´t have time to go on and get the seatpost out from a Splattern Muirwoods I got, that was to big size frame for me anyway, I did pull the trigger as I found a Splattern Muirwoods for sale on local sale site in correct size for me. It was listed as a 1990 but is in the 1991 cataloge, have not check the frame number yet. It was still to far away to drive and see it, but, the pics in the add told me it was, if not mint, almost mint,

More pics from the add here: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... p;t=321748
and I made a offer witch the seller agreed on, but miss understod me so he had to pay the shipping he had rather not. The seller still agreed to send me the bike in a proper bicycle box and I was happy.
The bike arrived yesterday, and as I got home and open the box I was both happy and very disapointed.

This is what came out off the box, and there was no parts attached by anything or any soft material. The seat post, seat, handlebar and a small plastic bag whit the pedals, front scruver and grips was just in bottom off the box, front wheel at side of frame. Sadly all of course had bonced around in the box more and less, and seller sent whit out a insurens. The front wheel axle had made the biggest damage to the down tubes left side.

And did find a fev other small marks that are fresh.
I dont know if he done this becorse he made a bad deal, all he could say when I contacted him was "sorry, they didn´t move around as I tested"
Other than that the bike was what I tought from the pics in the add. Looks like a little used one.
The bike had some upgrades, here a short list of its parts:
-Deraullers/Mechs: Shimano LX M567 (stock is M200), so to new for year. Have a nos front LX M500
For rear I have a good condission XT if I split a bike (Scott Super Evolution)
-Shifters: M300 (stock M200)
-Brakes: STX (stock M201)
-Brake levels: Coda (stock M200)
-Seatpost and saddle:Stock (seller did not give the one in the add pic whit the bike even agreed so)
-Chainset: Stock M200
-Wheels: Deore hubs (M510/530) whit clamed Mavic 117/Rigida rims that have no stickers left (stock is Araya MP11 rims whit 300 hubs, seller had them but wanted more to include in the deal)
-Tires: Continental RaceKing 26-2,0

As I see the mech´s, wheels as brakes are not time specific. And them I want to change.
I want it to have time specific parts.
I don`t have brakes yet unless I take from a nother bike (Scott Superevolution) I have, and not separate brake lever.
I have a set of 092 XT sti:s that are time line sutable. as a Nos LX500 front mech. Have a used but good XT rear mech on a bike I think I will splitt to parts (same Scott S-E)
I have a M300 crank I´m a bit tempted to change to it, and also a XT chainset if I do deside to split the Scott Super Evolution I have. Still the stock black M200 loooks great in the Neon yellow frame! Doesn`t it?
The wheels are way too new, but I hapen to have a set of wheels whit DX hubs and Rigida Rally 300 rims. I also have a set of old slightly used Continental Traveler amberwall tires, well more tanwall now as quit dry sidewalls. So I will use that.

As I did put on the wheels I noticed the scruve to fasten the handlebar was missing on the stem. Fortunally it was found in bottom of the box. Now the wheels are on. I have to think how to go on. Test ride it whit current componenets or change some still (the XT sti:s) before a test ride.

Very sad to see the damage caused by bad packing! I was really lucky as mine was packed very well, all tubes were wrapped and everything was nice and right in the box so no rubbing....

Rob

OK, a small update. Did put bar on today whit a set of XT 092 shifters/sti´s, grips as the barends from the "other" 1991 Muirwoods I still have in a box waiting for shipping.
Did take of the mechs, and instaled a Exage 500LX (NOS) front mech as did take the 735 XT rear mech from the Scott. Came out nice whit some cleaning. Decided to keep the stock chainset, even its a heavy one. For brakes I have not desided yet, migt put on the black GS200 onec that are left from the "other" Muirwoods? Sorry lacy whit the camera, pics in a later post if intrest....

Ahhh......maaaaaan! Can't believe how people think that shipping stuff with no protection is clever. It's not like that's an easy paintjob to repair.

Did you get offered a partial refund? It's the sellers responsibility to package it adequately after all!

Aside from the new scuffs it does look great! I'll be in touch soon about "the other muirwoods" ;)

Sadly the seller did not take any responsibility :( Just clames the wheel could not move in the box, BULLS**T I say!
The shipping Company says the seller should have packed it better, also takes no responsibility, so a dead end

I have not tought of how to repair the damage, I know a painer so maybe he can make apaint to match...hopfully. Fortunaly not mutch splatter on that part. Anyone have a new R sticker for me?
A nother sad thing is the former owner has also remover the chainstay protecter  He seem to be a real amature as I have gone thro the bike.

A question to you all, would you think this bike is better as this spechall build, or be better if built back to stock speck?

Wow, that was pretty poor packaging :(
Fortunately, it should be easy to sort.
Can you buy the Marin letters individually ?

I dont know if I can, so still is like in the pics, and for paint so far just put clear coat on to prevent rust buildup.
