1991 Kona Explosif DX

Re:

Zip ties have gone now :D replaced by a couple of stick on hose guides, not very elegant, but what can you do?

The Maguras and Gripshift are not the typical fare for a '91 Explosif (most builds seem to be canti brakes and thumbshifters) but both were available at that time, sometimes it's good to be different.

Re:

Few photos from a couple of days ago, I've been using the Explosif to go to & from work so fitted some Schwalbe City Jet tyres, makes it much quicker on the Tarmac, the 28/38/48 chainset doesn't seem quite so bad now!

Re:

Lovely looking bike :)

Are those Citijets skinwall or Camberwell? Just ordered a set of skins for mine and thought they'd look lighter.

I thought they only did Blackwall or Tan/Amber Wall? I don't remember, but these are definately a darker colour, more like an Amber wall tbb.

Just rotated the Biopace chainrings round slightly, will see how it feels on tomorrow's ride to work.

Very nice looking build. Be good to see the left side and those cable guides you’ve used...

Trying to tame an unruly Magura brake hose is no easy task.
I guess fitting a brand new hose might iron out the kinks and bends, but that's not going to happen anytime soon
I wonder what they did BITD? On my Orange I drilled out the cable stops, but there's not even a rear cable stop on this!

Anyway, this has become my go to bike for the short trip to work, its not the fastest or lightest, but can handle tarmac and a bit off off-road even with the slick tyres.

Re:

That is bloody lovely  Deffo going black on my new Kona project.
can i ask what the powder coat cost?

Willing to be shot down in flames here, but are you sure you've got those brake booster mounted correctly? I would have thought they should be mounted under the heads of the bolts in the canti mounts - the idea being they stop the bosses from spreading when the brakes are applied hard.
