1991 Kona Explosif DX

Re:

So over the last few days I've got the Explosif ready to ride.
Unfortunately today's test ride was curtailed by the dreaded skipping chain on the cassette
Both are previously used, the Cassette "looks" OK to my eyes, so I'll change the chain and try again

Don't mind the cable ties  I've some stick on cable guides to fit ;)

Re: I'm feelin' blue... 1991 Kona Explosif

Looking good. Those new decals do smarten it up and black Konas just look good anyway (although I am biased). Bummer about the skipping chain - hopefully soon sorted.

Re:

So, it was actually the chainring that was causing the slippage, middle ring too worn out to handle a different chain.
Fortunately I had another MT-60 Deore chainset so I a quick change and all is well.
Went for a quick ride in the local woods today, whilst it's no lightweight I could tell straight away that it just felt a much better ride than the Fire Mountain it replaced.
The Flexstem is actually OK, trails were pretty dry and running fast today, it definately took the sting out of some of the rooty sections. :)

Can I ask, did u laquer over your decals or not?

Nope. Gil at Retro decals can do them with a protective/UV layer on the decals if you don't want to clearcoat over the top. Frame is powdercoated so I wasn't going to clearcoat it as well.

Same as my lava dome. That’s what I did too. Just wondered if you had done same. Good effort mate !

What tyres and width u got fitted?

Tried some 2.0 table tops on my same aged lava dome and they were sadly too wide at the chainstays...

Re:

Tyres are Kona A:/ Drive and B:/Drive.
Both are 2.0 I think, although the front seems to come up a bit bigger??
Tyre width can vary by manufacturer though, they're not a standard "standard"

 like that. I like the Hydro-stops and i think the zip ties are fine. Big fan of DX also.
