While I was on a tea run/nose around during a car boot sale this past Sunday, the sister-in-law who was watching the stall texted me to have a look for a bike for her husband to ride to work on.
Wasn't long before I found this:
Hoping it wouldn't need more than a clean up and a mild greasin' I gamely said I'd give it a going over, not stopping to think I'm of on holiday the following Friday
So a quick service became:
Rear mech cable rusted through, front brake cable not routed through the stem, tyres cracked and crappy, many scratches covered with pipe-fitters foil tape, generally grumbly bearings,oh and a stuck seatpost.......it was like peeling an onion!!
However, not one to back away from a challenge (and faced with the prospect of lending one of the fleet out until it's done!) I set to work, sadly as time (and light) was against me I didn't think to stop for pictures during the 'build' So I'll say some words and you can draw your own conclusions:
Hammer
Grinder
Sandpaper
Pliers
Masking tape
Rattle can
Degreaser
Bearings escaped
Spanners
Allen key
Lube
Grease
Clean
Polish
Finished cabling it up last night and a quick spin up the road at 11o'clock last night showed it to be quite a nice little ride
More pictures of it finished later but in the meantime:I must say I've really enjoyed doing this one and its renewed my enthusiasm for my bikes as I felt they were starting to get on top of me
please feel free to make any comments or suggestions.
Cheers all
Rich
