1991 Cannondale dropout query

Good evening R'Bikers

I have a 1991 cannondale 3.0 Aluminum

I am trying to source a new derailleur hanger. I purchased a #16 from BETD and although it looked the same as 'tired' one I took off, its far wider. Does anyone know what one I need and where to obtain?

Also, can someone tell me the size of the 2 bolts that are used to attach hanger to frame?

Thanks

The are 3 types of hanger.Pre 1991 have a hole spacing of 15.49 mm and a width of 4.7,hangers for 1991 models only theoretically have a hole spacing of 14.33mm and a width of 4.7,3.0 series made from 1992 onwards have a width of 6.4mm.Crucially the 1991 holes are angled differently.

I have had two 1991 3.0 series and one 1991 Beast all of which came with the pre-1991 hanger. The two 3.0 series were made in the last quarter of 1990 and the Beast was made in April 1991.A 1991 frame off Ebay came ready powder coated so I could not read the frame number but that had the 1991 hanger.

Screws on the pre-1991 appear to be 2.5mm

If anyone needs a pre-1991 hanger I have three I don't want which I am quite happy to karma in a jiffy bag to any UK address.

Thanks Frank - really loving the frame, got some nice bits to put on it. I measured the frame minus the hanger, and strangely its the same dimensions of a pre 1991. And as you mentioned, the hole locations are different.

I too now have a spare #16 1992+ hanger that is brand new, if anyone wants it, and if you have a spare Frank, I shall wait until the new one turns up.... it may not fit :? Hopefully it will according to my measurements. They were out of stock most places, I just hope Qwerty cycles keep there stock levels accurate, otherwise may well get in touch

It is important to measure the hole centres on the hanger, frame holes are larger with a clearance. When you fit the new hanger from Qwerty check that it lines up with the frame and that the shape matches the frame where the axle goes in,a pre-1991 hanger will fit but it just does not sit right in a 1991.

The only 1991 hanger I found was the D72 from www.gearmechhanger.com

Hope this helps

Re:

I got one for a 1991 Beast of the East from Bike Wagon in the USA a couple of years ago. They had a much bigger selection last time. Its worth contacting them they were very helpfull and the postage was very reasonable it. From memory I paid less than a lot of UK companies were looking for. Not completely sure about the link below but worth getting in touch with them.

Re:

Thanks fella,

However, the dropout I ordered from Qwerty Cycles turned up today and fits perfectly

Re:

BTW Frank, I could make out by the frame number sequence the 0990 so it's a September 1990 SMx000 model :)

The dropout from Qwerty fits perfectly

Really starting to come together, I'll get a photo up when finished :D

Good result, glad you are up and running.Fits with my experiences, anything made in the last quarter seems to go out as next years model, but the spec does not necessarily change immediately.I am currently selling a 1992 F/F on ebay,I know its a 1992 because it has the thicker dropouts, larger headset and force 40 boss on the fork but it was made in September 1991.

The cycle industry has always been like this. The reason for my recent flurry of selling is that I have just taken delivery of a 2015 (!) Specialized Roubaix whose frame was made in July of this year.
