** 1991 ALVES 531 Custom **

Looking good so far. 8)
Have you ordered decals yet?
Just thinking it's very classy with the grey, black and silver but if it had a bit of colour pop in the decals it would set it off a treat. Sinnermans current build has bright pink decals. Could look good on this?

Re:

so, not much been happening with this for the last wee while as i couldn't make my mind up what i wanted to do with it.

subsequently decided that i should try to preserve as many of the original parts as i could, so sold all the parts i'd bought for it, and started again!

i stripped and painted the P2 forks which came up really nice, cleaned the stem, and tracked down a NOS stronglight headset from France, which is what was fitted originally and the forks were already cut and threaded for that particular model.

it also happens to be an amazing looking headset i think!

well, Mr Postman delivered a couple of packages this morning, one of which was the headset, and after spending some time on it this morning, it's now fitted (a complete pig of a job) and the forks are in!

Re:

the other box that was delivered this morning was a pair of wheels i found on eBay.

spent a lot of time cleaning them up, but they've come up really well, delighted with how they look!

the ceramic coating is still in pretty good condition considering the age of the rims, and the nipples and eyelets scrubbed up well too!

hubs are still super-smooth, just the rear wheel needs a true as there is a tiny flick in it, but for the money, they are perfect!

threw on the Magics and matching grips along with the bars and stem.

just not sure on what seat post i should go for......

Re:

forgot i had an XTR square tape BB in the shed, along with these highly polished white industries cranks with a new set of middleburn rings that i bought on here ages ago, so installed them this afternoon!

it's not XTR, but the black rings match well with fork and the high polish ties in with the chrome rear end of the frame.... what do you think?!

some nice ti cranks bolts and caps would look better than the horrible plastic surrounds on the standard bolts, but looks not too bad!

The Stronglight headset is lovely and fits in perfectly in my opinion.

The WI crankset looks good and the silver and black works well with the fork/headset/stem and even the rear stays.

Re:

seat post, and chainring bolts arrived today, so got them fitted and the Flite bolted up :D

still need:
some nice self-extracting crank bolts
to make my mind up about V's or canti's
and decide how many gears and what mechs to use! 🤦
