Even if the frame is repaired by a Ti expert not sure whether it will be strong enough for normal off-road rides jumping and landing on the rear. I think you have to clear the shipper of any fault. It would be just wrong to blame the innocent shipper for the stress induced crack. This can be resolved nicely without the shipper being involved.

Aaaah but if the crack wasnt there before it was shipped and it was packer well then surely it would be the shippers fault?

I think its clear the crack was there before it was shipped and in the whole process of shipping it has opened it up so now its visible. I guess it was probably shipped with no rear wheel on and no dropout spacer in place but if i am wrong then i retract that.

What the hell, the last thing steve needs after finding a bike he bought that it is cracked. Now he has all this in his thread, poor chap must be gutted and he has all this bitching , with no one knowing all the facts.

Think this is best that steve and seller sort out, as they both have all the facts as to states that it left seller and how packaged. And then how steve got it.

Regardless of the outcome I wish the buyer and seller the best journey. This is the reason why I don't fancy buying used stuff. If you have to buy an expansive item that is used, you have to inspect it to make sure both parties are satisified. Cheers and a Happy New Year!

You filed a claim with the shipping service? Was there some evidence that the delivery driver opened the box and rode the bike hard for a few years? That's how the damaged happened, in case you were wondering.

So what is your theory: The seller rode it hard for some time and cracked the rear stay and decided to sell it. Perhaps shift the blame to the shipper and the new buyers gets some kind of compensation for it to make the pain/depression go away and at the same time the seller gets off clean. Everyone is happy and exonerated except for the shipper and shipper's insurance who got royally screwed. Do you think UK is that much different than USA?

I completely agree that it's the last thing Steve (or anyone who buys a bike/frame and finds it damaged) needed.
However the bitching was to be expected. Everyone has their opinion, and is more than willing to post it.
I'm as guilty as anyone, although I know darn well how he feels. I had a few cracked e-stays myself. Those were my own fault though, but I still was gutted.

@ Steve : Get in touch with Vernon Barker Cycles. They're one of the few companies in the UK who can repair Ti frames. They should be able to give more info on the chances of success if you send them the photos.

Haha, nope...people are people, no matter what flag they fly. That's not the first Ti-Mega I've seen cracked near that spot. That Parcel Force driver sure got around.

Gutted for you Steve. I had a similar thing happen with a Xizang from the states a few months ago.

I was kind of lucky and ended up about £150 out of pocket.

I hope you get it resolved mate.

Buying 2nd hand stuff is a minefield.
