1991 Alpinestars Al-Mega DX - Poole

Was on Gumtree for £185, but taken off and popped up on eBay. Did ask if cracked at headtube + front meck mount and he sent more pics of chainstay.

Then noticed crack, sent this to seller and no response (he has updated description to say no cracks) so either trying to deceive buyers or putting his head in the sand.

I've just sent a message highlighting the crack and asking to confirm, lets see of I get a response. I'm not sure a pre gusset Al-Mega without cracks exists, does it?

I have a pre-Gusset one, but seems a tiny fisure in seattube, but seems it can resist my use. I had a unit in 1991, which cracked on E-seatsays-DT union, as usual it cracked. When I started with my retrobike passion 2 years ago, I bought as barely used one. I had to remove the stem ( cracked on bolt area), and I installed a black Syncros . And my seattube will resist.

I'm just planning to ride mine which is the corrected version with the gusset. What should i expect? Any danger of cracking at the headtube or seattube? I'm around 70 kgs, and the bike is with the original factory fork, which i'd prefer to keep, what sort of use would you recommend or discourage?

Im mechanical engineer. I broked mine when I was 70 kg but 18 y.o. (1993). If you are not racing nor jumping, you can ride It safely if there is no crack visible. If you have a gusset, you Will see It if It happens. Only check It from time to time. With gusset Maybe is double the strong.
