Spud

Thanks Nick! There's something I've noticed that's bugging me and can't be rectified but I'll live with it. Just want to see it built up now!

Woah. Looks ace. :)
Thanks! I can only take credit for the concept, getting this to where it is now is all down to Argos, their welder and Gil. My input is the choice, sourcing and application of components in the final build - the best is yet to come

it would still be a bag of parts and a well worn tatty/frame if you hadn't brought all the above together.... none of the above would have happened by accident.

Re: 91 Al-Mega DX project

Haha yeah, bank balance will never be the same now that I've caught this Retrobike bug! It's not that but from memory I'm sure I recall reading in your ARC thread that there was something you felt wasn't perfect, so you'll relate to my niggle! It's not a disaster but it's taken the "perfect" label off my perfect build ;)

Thanks for the kind words Spud, and your points are valid of course. Tbh if this project hadn't started with the intentions I had to recreate the bike of my 13th Christmas, it'd be nowhere near the level of finesse it's destined for, or even a quarter of the cost. I'm well into a four-figure sum on this  But it's a love-laden project and you can't really put a price on that - the value of it is what counts! I may do a receipts tally when it's finally finished just so I know what kind of holiday I could've had instead...

I'm sure like me you'll try to live with it.... But in the end you'll circum and end up "scratching the itch" .... I'll put money on. :D

TBH In a strange way thats the fun/challenge of doing a build, if it was easy and everything fell into place first time round it wouldn't give you half the satisfaction it does when you've finally finished on got it exactly how you want it.

I guess a large part of a good build is the journey getting there, rather than just waving your wallet at someone elses and having instant gratification.

Re:

Things just got even more expensive and went in a slightly different direction. Again.

Re:

Another big piece of my big retrobike jigsaw completed this evening - well almost, just the stickers to apply.

It's taken two-and-a-half sets of Judy XCs to get these to where they are! NOS Kronos medium-weights springs installed, everything freshly greased with new SRAM Butter, NOS SRP titanium canti studs and titanium crown bolts fitted. I'm particularly pleased with the condition of the wiper seals, as these are almost impossible to find in very good condition! I've yet to find any NOS original RockShox seals for the 95/96 Judys and they're different from the later 28mm Judys. These are totally unmarked and as-new. Stanchions are also mint condition

The damper is good enough not to need an overhaul or topping up. If I'd been more confident in stripping the damper I might've done so, but I was crapping myself and struggled to strip and rebuild the forks as it was! Thanks to help and advice of RB members through numerous threads and posts shared and directly replied to, I've just about sussed it!
