1990 Raleigh Moonshine

The Blueridge was blue and orange and from the lightweight range

The wonders of the modern world , have checked with a mate of mine from back then and he reckons the bike our friend had was indeed a Blueridge, it must have sat between Thunder Road and Moonshine in the range that year. Pretty sure his was full Deore LX, although the Moonshine in this thread looks like it has LX STi's. My Mate bike also shared the skinny bladed forks that are on Nicks Moonshine.
I have a feeling 1992 was the last year of the lightweight range before the Dynatechs took over.

Carl.

Yes it would be nice to see a Blueridge again.

I had a quick look in the catalogue archive but couldn't find the lightweight mtb range.

The Moonshine seems to be the most common of the four these days. I'd love to see a White Lightning as well

Mine came with full DX, including DX STI's, but LX pedals (pictured) rather than DX (soon sorted that though). I have every reason to believe this was original from the day the bloke I bought it from got it.

Looks like mystery solved regarding the blue and orange model

Mine indeed had LX Sti's as can be seen at the start of the thread, but curiously was fitted with DX pedals, again all original spec. Presumably Raleigh chopped and changed a little with parts? As far as I know the range was pretty much canned by '91 as the Dyna Techs had made an appearance by then...

I should have finished tidying this up before the end of the week :)

Ask Velomanic nicely and he'll post up some pics of his one.

Pretty similar in spec to my Butler but not suspension corrected.

Back to the build..

Almost finished now bar chain, brakes and tyres, the original Michelin ones are shot despite looking okay in the pics! I really should have done so over the weekend but work got in the way as usual

I've been amazed again by how good the condition of the drivetrain is.. I cracked open the hubs and cassette to clean/degrease and all was again mint.. The stem and bars also seem to have lightened the front end up a bit.

There has been a little modern concession with the fitting of some purple halo skewers but I think they look the part - as well as being much easier to find than control tech ones! I'm not too sure about the flite as well now, I reckon this needs a turbo or maybe even a rolls saddle now...one to mull over methinks..

Once it's done I'll 'borrow' my lady's posh camera, find an edgy urban location not occupied by hipsters/rioters (could be tricky) and take some better pics :)
