1990 Kona Explosif - Finished! see Page 4

Re:

Here’s a few pics of acquired parts so far, including a spare pair of pedals and a spare bottom bracket. It’s a heavy frameset!

Lucky to find some Track 2's - wasn't there a recall on them and they were swapped out for P2's?

No idea! Maybe someone else can answer that :)

The early production ones were recalled, as the legs would slide up the crown, and the P2 was the quick replacement option, though you could still request a replacement Track 2, I believe. I think the later ones were fine but by that point Kona had all but moved away from the composite fork design

Re:

Cassette parts and chain turned up after I’d taken the earlier pics.

The rims, hubs, cassette parts and rear mech are all now in the hands of my Campag aficionado bike mechanic. He’ll be building the wheels, and using the parts I’ve provided together with bits from his extensive collection, piecing together a correct / workable 8spd cassette. He’s also going to be completing the rear mech which has a few missing/incorrect parts.

Could be a rolling chassis during the Christmas break :xmas-big-grin:

Exactly this.

Re:

Racing Bitd with the temporary warranty replacement forks (the temporary replacement fork legs were a ti finish) , pics with the bike on its own with the final production replacement and decades later.

Last Pic i thought was kinda relevant given the spec of this build and what was happening here in the Uk at the time. (Sirrius-Fillet brazed by Lee Cooper)

looking forward to seeing how this looks when finished, certainly takes me back.

it was the year Dave unveiled his Klein as his weapon of choice. Defo an unfair weight advantage.

Fond Memories. :xmas-cool:
