Yesterday, in the wind and rain my sister and I collected her new bike, a 1990 Koga Miyata Prologue with a small 50cm frame finished in stunning purple and white paint. The frame has a 1989 serial number and some components are dated 1989 too, I believe the colour scheme was from 1990. Shimano Exage 500ex equipped with lovely Sakae bars, stem and seat post.

The saddle had no cover, the rear tyre was for an indoor trainer and the triathlon bar extenders needed to be removed. That was all taken care of yesterday. Fresh Vittoria Ruben Pro Graphene 2.0 tan wall tyres fitted, Giant LIV ladies saddle now sitting pretty, bar extenders gone. A quick wipe over and it looks the part. The brakes are missing the Exage blanking buttons, they will get sorted in time too. The bars are up high until she is happy with the new riding position compared to her Holdsworth with straight bars. I’m sure they will be dropped a little in no time at all.

Fresh bar tape and correct shimano qr skewers have been ordered (the rear qr skewer was trainer friendly and not the original). Larger pedals on order too, she went for Odyssey Svelte Sport in black, 90’s nos and boxed. I have some and they are super smooth and lightweight too.

Here’s a before and after picture

My sister snuck in a short ride on Saturday without me. Initial feedback was good, the bike rode faultlessly and she settled in on the bike nicely. The pedals and skewers arrived but still need to be fitted.
