1990 Claud Butler Klylami Single Speed Commuter Build

Dirt Disciple
So in June last year I purchased this bike as a spare/commuter bike. I put a good few miles on it riding to work everyday, and I completely wore out the drive train. So it’s been sat since febuary unused. However I’ve decided to put some more life into it.

As you can see, right now there is a lack of drivetrain.

As I ride to work and college everyday, rain or shine, I need something a drive train that’s reliable, easy to maintain and cheap to replace. So I’ve decided to make it single speed. For simplicity and running costs.

I need to remove the cranks and bb as they’ll be replaced to something else but the threads are destroyed so I’m having to borrow a tool fork my uncle to get them off.

Can’t looking forward to getting this one done, as I really like this frame!

I can’t remember what tyres I was running at that time, it’s now got on a set off specialised crossroads

Cheers, been w while since it was last on here, I thought I updated it but apparently not.

I think the build turned out quite well.

I’ve done around 400 miles on it since I rebuilt it, I’ve done everything on it such as, commuting, road rides, xc, and even rode it at the local bike park near me.

That’s one of the most recent photos of it. It’s not got a set of mudguards for wet weather commuting.

Dare I say I’m considering throwing on a set of gears again. Altho this is currently the only single speed I’ve got (excluding my dirt jumper).

Excellent... glad to see it’s still alive! :D

Ps That’s the first version from 1993. Very distinctive graphic (the small Claud/large Butler) was used in 1993 only ;)

Cheers mate, I do enjoy riding it.

When I brought the bike I did do a bit of searching, but the guy told me it was from 1990, oh well that’s handy to know and at least gives me ideas for future projects
