Hi All,

Some day last week 9.00 a.m. I got a phonecall from Yo-Eddy/Roy, who told me he had blocked the road with his car (Merc w114, a classic ;) ) for a cyclist riding a bike I am really after for years. The cyclist was a kind person and he was open to suggestions.

This evening Yo and I went to the kind person and offered him a neat Panasonic MC-Expert for trade. After a testride he agreed and I am now the happy owner of a '89 Koga RidgeRunner!

Thanks Yo!

No pics yet, but it looks pretty much like this:

It is not exactly mint and some of the original components are missing. The XT thumbies are replaced by Tourney kind of stuff for example :?
The thumbies are essential for the concept, so they have to be sourced somewhere. This bike will keep me busy for the upcoming time!

In the catalogue:

Oouch ...it will be difficult to source that seat

This particular bike is the '90 DH Worlds winning example.

Nice bike and nice story. Saw a lad doing a paperound on a lovely pace rc200 the other day and nearly pulled a similar stunt, but y'know approaching young boys waving a wedge of cash could result in unfortunate misunderstandings so I left it

Hi,

congrats. I had an Ridge Runner back in 1989. Sold it in 1990 to get an Cannondale. Still nice memorys about this bike, altough it was a bit too tall for me.

oh well, don't mind the clothing, this was the 80's ;)

Greetings,

Michael

Hi Michael,

Fun to see someone riding and enjoying one.

Hope I will have mine fully restored asap. Rode only a few hundred meters, but I now already know I will be fast on this bike.

Re:

Zombie Thread coming back from the dead :)

Just bought this 1987 Koga Miyata RidgeRunner and plan to restore it into mid-80s NORBA style race bike glory. This is a bike from the second year of Koga Miyata building Mountainbikes and it was quite a HighEnd-Bike back in the day. I remember, when I started biking back in 1987 one of my riding buddys had exactly the same bike. One year later I bought a cheaper "TerraRunner" with the same frame, cause the RidgeRunner was too expensive with more than 2700,- DM (oh, and another year later I bought the 89 RidgeRunner). The particular 1987 bike I found seems to have spent it's whole live as a townie with fenders, but that desperate state will now come to an end. Only problem seems to be the hole in the seattube because the former owner bought a wrong sized seatpost and to prevent it from slipping he drilled a hole in the seatpost and "fixed" the slipping with a screw going through the seattube and seatpost! Oh well... I'll see how big the damage is when I recieve the bike tomorrow. Anyway, I really have a soft spot for those early to mid-80's race mountainbikes and I'm looking forward to the restoration, wether it ends up ridable or just as wall-art.

Greetings,
Michael

Here's the latest addition to my stable, a 1989 Ridge Runner in near mint condition. I believe, this bike was ridden less than 100k. It's the same frame size as the Ridge Runner I owned 26yrs ago. It seems a bit too large for me from todays point of view. While that's absolutely right it was the frame size I was riding 26yrs ago and many Mountainbikes were sold and ridden in tall framesizes with low seat extension back in the day. Did'nt stop me from riding down Sentiero 601 at Lake Garda in April 1990 (well, most of it).

And another picture of my 1987 Ridge Runner

Now I need to find a 1988 Ridge Runner, but don't tell my wife :D

Greetings,

Michael
