1989 Haro Extreme

Some of you may recall this was up for sale on FB marketplace recently. Different is probably a polite word to describe it. However it's pretty mint, I don't see its ever had much use so was certainly a good buy for the money. I've given it a bit of a clean up and fitted some period correct tyres and saddle. If that stem looks long that's because it is. 150mm is for kids, that's a man sized 170 🤪. Normally when I pick up a bike the first thing I try is does the seat post move, which it does. However on closer inspection there seemed to be some kind of shim stuck in the frame. Turns out it's the carbon sleeve/wrap that was originally fitted over the ali post. I've got it to move a bit as it would be nice to get it out and reattach but I fear that's probably a lost cause. Still on the bright side when I give up on that idea 5 minutes with a screwdriver should have it out in pieces.

Wow! Awesome condition! Love the 80s graphics and proper long stem with roller. Bonkers looking machine, feels like a cross between an old low-pro time trial machine and a kids bike i’ve forgotten the name of... but I love it! 👍😀

An off road time trial bike was my thought as well. Kind of backed up by the weird gearing which I can only assume is stock. From memory it's something like a 50/40/28 up front. Perhaps Haro thought fire road time trials were going to be the next big thing.

Correction, the chainset is actually a 50/44/28 which is an even weirder choice than what I originally posted above. No wonder it's in good condition, you would need some good legs pushing that combo offroad.

I love those distinctive old Haros. Reminds me of the old BMX F1's

+1 for a 10mile forestry road TT with some singletrack links. This Haro would look the part with a rear disc, velocity deep V front and a modern TT bar setup. Big chainring required.
