My dad bought this Giant Sierra new in 1989, he rode it on road for years till he was diagnosed with a heart condition and the bike was left in the shed for years. A couple of years ago I decided to make it nice for him as he reckoned he was feeling fit enough to cycle again - he was 80 at this point. The bike was stripped, cleaned and returned to it's former glory (albeit it with a mods for an old man) he rode it once, then decided he'd rather have an electric bike. So here it is up for sale.

It's in great condition and much of it is original.

Frame, there's a few minor scuffs and knocks here and there but nothing serious. I've done a rattle can respray on the rear triangle - colour and lacquer. I've done a nice job of it and the colour matches very well. Likewise the forks have been resprayed.

  • The bottom bracket is a cartridge type
I changed the original bio-pace chainset for a round set of deore LXs from around 94/95 (26,36,46) to make it easier for old man legs to turn.
pedals are new, metal bear trap type.
Bars are club roost riser bars, the originals down and they were too narrow now.
    Mountain LX front mech
    Deore XT rear mech
Shifters and brakes are mountain LX, there's a few scuffs but the work very well still.
The brakes (Mountain LX Cantis and U brake) have been stripped, cleaned and put back together and everything works nicely.
The rims are the original Arayas and are true
Tyres are Halo twin rail, not a period correct tyre but they look right and are nice to ride on.
    The chain is new
    All cable inners are new.
Everything has been stripped, cleaned, greased and put back together properly.

The not so good bit.
The hubs spin freely and the bike rides fine but the bearing surface inside the hubs are nearing the end of their lives, it's noticeable if you lift the wheel and spin in, but not when your ride. The cones and bearings have been replaced but the problem is with the hub. If you want this as a pub bike then they'll probably be fine, I didn't swap them because even if my dad had ridden it he wouldn't have been going far and it wasn't worth the expense, but if you're thinking of massives miles then you'll need to replace the hubs at some point.

All in all, it's an ace bike.

It's a 21 inch frame, my dad was 6' 2" when he bought it (he's about 2 inches shorter now) so that's the sort of rider it will fit. I'm 6' 4" and it's a bit small, which is one reason I'm not keeping it.

It's priced at £250 plus £20 carriage to a mainland UK address but i will of course take offers.

Pay pal gift please

If you have any questions then PM me, but if your question is "will you split it ?" the answer ends in off.

Cheers

James
