Kuwahara MTBs in Switzerland

Hello everyone,

Mondia sold a lot of co-branded Kuwahara MTBs here in Switzerland during the 1980s and early 1990s.

Here are a Kuwahara Mondia Cascade Cross and Kuwahara Mondia Cascade Road for your viewing pleasure. While I have seen one or two with crackle paint here, the norm seems to have been more conservative paint schemes like these two.

Cheers,
The Kid

Here is the full spec if any one is wondering

Frame: 1988 kuwahara sierra xt hand made in Osaka Ishiwata CrMo quadruple butted tubing

Fork: tange mtb

Headset: kuwahara
Stem: kuwahara
Handlebar: strong bar made in japan
Grips: ritchey true grips 2
Barends: n/a

Hey chillibiker,

that is a great looking bike. I have seen the exact bike in my town.

Your frame is missing the tubing decal:
Guaranteed built with
MTB (BIG Letters)
ISHIWATA CrMo
Quadruple
Butted Tubes.

The Sierra XT that I saw had the serial number on the lower seat tube.
Very difficult to read because of the paint colour. It was 88 02 xxxxx.
So the frame was made in 1988 February.

Hi all, let me show you my Kuwahara Sierra Grande XT. I have all original parts but made a cafe cruiser to enjoy city rides.

Here is a mysterious Kuwahara I picked up recently. Can't find any information about it online though. Anyone familiar with something like this?

Weird alu frame and seems to have Shimano STX RC cranks and derailleur, LX integrated shifters and STX canti brakes (with the rear replaced by a random v-brake sadly). Some "Araya" wheels.

Put some nicer tires on it already, pic has the old ones on.
