what's the back story to this?

The frameset came from a collector located in Germany. He listed a half dozen NOS Mondonico framesets a few years ago, most or all of them were fade paint jobs. I remember a green/white, yellow/white, red/white. I chose this one since I ride a 63cm. I met him in person when I visited Germany - really friendly guy. I lost contact w/him so I have not yet shown him the completed project.

I decided to build it up with a mix of Campy stuff...I purchased the derailleur for $40 USD back in 1994 from a small LBS. Back then, I had no idea that it would be fitted to this frame some 15 years later. I don't collect lots of parts so it was just dumb luck that the derailleur & frame were dated c. 1988.

The parts came from various sources: ebay, private sellers, and The Bici in Santa Barbara, CA. who also built up the bike. They provided the cranks, bottom bracket, seatpost, tires, and sorted a number of details.
