I bought this short ago in ebay, but actually after another nice frame I´ve seen, son this has to go. This is the ebay advert:
Im selling a classic titanium frame from arguably the best titanium frame builders ever. This frame was imported from America in 1988, ridden for a year and then the owner bought the 1989 model and swapped the parts over. This frame then sat in the bike shop i worked in for years and years gathering dust before i contacted the owner and bought it from him. I took it touring in France but unfortunately it is too small for me so i have to part with it. This frame has done very few miles for its age.
It's in good condition with no dents, dings, cracks, bends etc. Somewhere along the line the Merlin sticker on the down tube has been removed, but the logo on the head tube remains. There is some marking on the drive side chain stay from chain slap, but nothing serious. It has the small press fit bottom bracket, I have the spindle and brand new sealed bearings but not the collars that hold it all in.
This frame is 17"cc - I can give more measurements on request - and the frame number is 450.
And this is what I was answered by Merlin when I asked them about the year of the frame:
I am sorry but my serial numbers only start at 1001 in 1988. If you do in fact have a Merlin that has a number under this then you are looking at a very early production frame! Also, the records from this period were kept on paper and were not transferred to digital by the last owners of the brand so unfortunately I do not have access to these at this time.
Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.
Good luck!
Zach Spinhirne-Martin
I want back what I paid, which was a very reasonable 512€, +shipping quote.
The pics are not mines, but I can take them tonight. Feel free to ask any questions, will try to answer them, thanks!
