1988 Brodie Climbmax

I once emailed Paul pictures of my Catalyst. He commended the overall shape of the bike, but said a (Kona) Velocity stem is the worst fit possible, because of the feud both companies had back then.
I made sure to switch stems as soon as possible..
:p
That's quite insightful! I'm 100% certain @Canuckbiker is constantly on the look out for one. This is now extra motivation! ;)

Yes, Paul's not too keen on Kona product and has his reasons for sure.

The velocity stem for me is a good place holder for now. I am always on the lookout for a 130mm zero or low rise 1" Brodie stem if anyone has a spare they'll part with ;)

Believe it or not there was one for sale on here the other week, great price too and sold in minutes (unsurprisingly). Can't remember the length/rise. Seller was based in Belgium. Will keep an eye out for you. I have your spec written above!

mini brodie ride last night with a toadish tint.

hey Canuckbiker, add any additional pictures of
the new and improved climbmax
Another great ride Roy!

I'll wait a bit before posting better close ups of the new tires until I see how this potential stem purchase goes... ;)

Big upgrades from my point of view, biggest one being the new brodie stem 😍

It was not easy to get my hands on one but managed to coax this one out of @vintageman with a little help from @Retro_Roy

Big thanks Dave & Roy!

I understand it to be from a recent TIG stem run Paul did before COVID, a fitting version for my TIG climbMax for sure.

At first I worried the longer length and higher rise would not be my first preference but after fitting this morning and going for a ride I absolutely love the look and the feel, spot on!

As Roy pointed out in the last picture my other recent improvement was switching to some tires I prefer much more: Marin Rockstar Sierras, I got them for a steal (I think) off FleeBay, NOS. Heavier than the Smoke/Dart but whos cares? I love the look much more, the rounder profile especially.

Pretty much perfect now for me, unless an elusive gatorblade turns up, hmmm, maybe next months swap meet?
