Thanks unit3, loved the pics of your build, it helped inspire me as I've been waiting to collect the parts for my build. Just waiting on the wheels now. Finally found the axle I needed for the Bullseye hubs!

You big tease, what is this original frame you speak of, and why the wait to put it together?[/quote]

Cheers buddy, I need to get some up to date pictures of my Mani's.

My old/first race frame is nothing too exciting, but it was my whole world when I was a young gun

Updating...

The incredible Pete, who reunited me with my frame, also laid this prize on me:

A beautiful titanium bar/stem combo from One-Off, an offshoot of Merlin, made by Mike Augspurger. Sadly the bars had been cut down to 19", but I was able to find a machinist to press fit aluminum extensions into the ends, to bring it back to a respectable 23" width. Bars salvaged!

Re-painted the forks.

Got the cockpit together. In the rear is a Syncros titanium seat post and the obligatory Flite titanium saddle. Ignore the wheels for now, I'm just using these as a jig...

Re:

I thought this was going to be a slow burner, :D

buts its coming together a treat, I think you kept this build quiet until you'd found a few parts and fair play yah sir the bars are

Re:

Great story and great bike

Always loved the early Manitous's so glad you've been reunited and good luck with your build, reading your story almost made me late for work lol

Sorry Retro, I won't draw this out too much longer. It feels like an eternity since I got the frame back, but in reality its only been a couple of months. Set of wheels and a few bits and bobs and I'll finish her up, I promise!

Thanks Rich, almost late is a kind compliment!

Hey no apology needed

It'll be a shame when you finish in so much as I love following your progress

Fantastic bike, even better story, complete with pictures.

Starting to come together very nicely. You've done a great job on the frame and that stem and bar is sweet...

Really interesting to follow. And stunning to see how much of the design idears that were invented that early and moved on to the later Manitou HT (I got one of those in the 1995).
