Cleaning, restoring, polishing continues...
The rear mech came up so well it almost looks NOS! (Admittedly most of the fixings have been swapped out for newer ones)
Forgot to take a before of the mechs but did for some of the little things

Should have looked at the axle ages ago, but as they were covered in clean-ish grease I hadn’t bothered. The bearing surfaces aren’t quite what I was hoping for, but should machine just fine tomorrow in my lunch break...
Need to find something else to do now...

Just scanned this, and somethings pop to mind:
- good choice getting solid wheels built.
- not so convinced about the suspension forks, despite them looking fairly beefy; have you checked rider weight limits and suitability for a tandem?
- if you keep to the original fork, I'm certain you will struggle with any mini-V due to the very short distance between the
bosses and wide rims*. I would recommend the BR-CX50 or BR-CX70 if you go modern with the original fork, or dig
out some older cantis like BR-M550 with upgraded 70/72mm cartridge pads.

Yes, happy with the sensible wheel build, by far the most expensive part of this project but probably worth it.
As for the forks, well nothings set in stone. I’ve been led down this route by talking to other tandem users who had asked where and on what we intend to ride it. With the answer being local East Yorkshire B roads & greenlanes they all advised a road/touring shock as ridding around rough tarmac/pot holes isn’t quite as easy as when riding solo. I was pretty limited by the 1” steerer & budget but these Zoom forks seem to have a reasonable reputation. Also I’m not off roading and only want or need a small amount of travel. They also allow me more options with brakes, tyres & mudguards. (Seat heights not set)

Knocked a tool up in morning break then re-faced the surfaces during lunch... I think they’ve got a few miles left in them. A work colleague asked why bother, well because they’re hollow Stronglight and I’d need to pay through my teeth for a replacement set with no guarantee they’d be any better!
