1987 Marlboro Claud Butler Majestic 2 tandem FINISHED pg13

Well that was a long afternoon, just shifting one stubborn seized dust cap! I managed eventually to chip away at enough aluminium to get to the corroded steel washer, which I then had to dremel out big enough to allow my crank extractor to actually get the arm off of the axle.
I’ll leave it soaking now in super thin STP and hopefully get the washer out at a later date.

Now I just need to shift the stokers seat post. I’ve managed an 8th of a turn by holding it in the vice but it really doesn’t want to move easily so I’ve squirted a ton of penetrating juice down the seat tube and I’m going to leave it overnight. Although I’ve got a gut feeling it’s not so much seized but more jammed as these take a 26.2 post and this one is most definitely 26.4

Hurrah for a brace of teenagers!
With the post clamped firmly in the vice, Miss Peachy at the head tube writhing the frame back and forwards through 90 degrees whilst myself & Our Jimmy lift/pull up with all our worth we eventually removed the offending article!
Quick weigh-in just for fun; 4.73kg/10.8lb

Now I can indulge myself with ideas for a new paint colour.
I had originally planned on matching exactly the original silver or is it “panzergrau”? But after working on this frame for a few days now it’s leaving me a bit cold.
I was thinking about maybe warming up the grey a bit and then I remembered I have a couple of early 90’s Titanium SR powerbulge flat bars which I’d never really had a plan for, now I’m thinking these might be a good que for the colour “Pearl Mouse Grey”

Arghhh! My plans for Perlmausgrau have been scuppered! It would need to be ordered in and cost me an extra £300!!!!
Graualuminium it is then (£80 all in including rear rack, bottle cages and stems)
Well it’s closer to the original.

Really like that Perlopalgrun.
Yes, for a powder coat it does look a pretty cool green. I just didn’t realise how much the powders cost for some of these less used metallics. Not a major problem though as I really hadn’t made my mind up to not restore as original, this made that decision easy.

Phantasmagorian is my preference.

Pearlmausgrau’s a singer.......

Did you figure out the front brake? What about a short-arm v-brake for the front....not exactly retro, but potentially massively more stopping power than the cantis?
