This was a labour of love but I have to realise that at nearly 70 I am never going to go on that grand tour using it. With the warmer days approaching this would be perfect for long tours or just fun days out.
I stripped all parts from the frame and sent the frame for a profession bead blasting and powder coating, this gives a much more durable finish to either paint or stove enamel and as a result the frame has no scratches or paint chips. The frame of course is Reynolds 531 touring grade (build stronger for carry luggage for touring.) and the bike was one of the last hand crafted in the Birmingham factory at Tysley.
All mechanical parts were stripped down, cleaned and greased and parts replaced only if necessary keeping the bike nearly original.
It has a new chain, new brake pads, new cables and new Schwalbe Marathon tyres and tubes. It has an upgraded Shimano Deore LX rear mech but I will provide the original older Deore rear mech that came with the bike...the newer one is just a little crisper on the gear changes.
It has the original Shimano kit that it came with when new, mainly Shimano105. The Brookes B17 is original spec for the bike but is a newer addition in good used condition.
It rides very well and is very smooth on the road. It is 58cm from BB to top of seat tube.
All in all a beautiful bike that will last another 50 years at least and needs nothing else doing to it to enjoy a true classic.
