1987 ALAN CARBONIO

Re:

Well anyway, I really like how the bike looks now, pleased to hear it's getting used too! Good service from Alan too!
How does it ride?

Mike

Re:

I have a similar 'non Alan logo' Carbonio, from the research that I have done it is possible that these frames without Alan logos could be the ones made for Donnay for their promotional use. Apparently Donnay commissioned a number of bikes to show offf the strength of Carbon for thier new tennis racquet range. Anyone else heard of this?

Re:

Reading your post reminded me of a seller on LFGSS last year who had this Donnay bike for sale and provided the background story as to how the Donnay bike frames came about.

As for the OP's bike, if Alan in Italy have confirmed the serial number as one of theirs then it's an Alan. As far as I know Alan carbon frames also appeared as "British Eagle" and "Carbon Valley" but with unbranded lugs. There are also 2 Alan Carbonio's currently for sale on Ebay, the first has two cable guides on the top tube and no braze mount for the front mech, the other has three cable guides and a braze mount.

I have one of the Donnay branded ones (see the Late 80s tennis racquet link in my signature). I read the story on LGFSS with great interest. I currently have something in the works to test the theory, will tell you if it ever comes off!

I also very nearly bought this bike. I am so very pleased its still on here, thank you

edit- could you pm me the details of the contact you had with Alan? I'd be interested to try them myself :)

Hi,the contact I had was a guy called Alberto Falconi, this is his email: alfa@alanbike.it

I absolutely love this bike by the way!

Re:

Alberto is the (AL) in Alan, I think it's his sister Annamaria who is the (AN), hence the name ALAN.

I was one of a few people it seems who had their eye on buying this bike, but you've made a nice job of it.
I'd be interested to know where you got the Selle Italia bar tape from though, looks like a nice soft textured feel to it rather than the usual cork type of bar tape.

Re:

I did try to stay away from cork, it was from chain reaction cycles, I also bought it in white in case it looked better than black but I was happy with the black ;-))

Hi, I hope you're thoroughly enjoying the bike.

I was wondering if you'd be able to tell me some information about the fork? I'm looking to revert mine back from the one seen on it here (click) to something a lot more original

thanks for the help

Re:

Wow.. what a transformation, a great looking machine. I built mine up with Campag Super Record rear mech but it doesn't seem to sit right, think Shimano looks better. I've only got two cable guides, no more were necessary on smaller frames.
Enjoy the ride...Tim.
